Born in Taipei, Gorby has lived and worked in New York, Los Angeles, and Beijing. Not exactly Asian or American, he has described himself as a cultural bridge. Gorby studied film production at USC, graduating in 2014, and finished an MFA in Creative Producing from Columbia University.
When his short film “Love, Work & Other Demons” made a splash at festivals, he had the honor of directing “Killer Maid”, a feature movie for Tencent Pictures which is being adapted to a TV series by Legendary Entertainment. The short film, on the other hand, is being adapted to a TV series by Buzzfeed Studios.
Gorby's latest teen-comedy feature script "Alien America" was a finalist at Atlanta, Flickers' Rhode Island, and Nashville Film Festival. Although Gorby's favorite industry experience is directing "American Nightmare", a Chinese co-production horror feature for Blumhouse, Gorby is now transitioning to producing after the co-production was shelved by the pandemic. Not one to be discouraged, Gorby's main aspirations these days is best summed up as, "Dear god, I hope I didn't peak early."
